Birla Temple of Hyderabad

Birla temples are a chain established by the Birla family throughout India. All of these temples are brilliantly crafted in either white marble or sandstone. The Birla Temple in Hyderabad is located on a 13-acre land on a 280-foot-high hill by the name Naubath Pahad. It consists of around 2000 tonnes of pure white marble sourced from Rajasthan during construction. The temple incorporates architectural styles from Dravidian, Rajasthani, and Utkala. The Rajagopuram here is in Dravidian architecture, whereas the tower over the main temple is in Utkala, which refers to the Oriyan style. Swami Ranganathananda of Ramakrishna Ashrama consecrated the temple in 1975. Separate shrines for the Lord’s consorts, Padmavati and Andalamma, are also together. Additionally, a separate shrine for Garuda, Lord Vishnu’s vehicle, stands in front of the Balaji shrine.

The walls of the main sanctum adorn beautiful sculptures of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Seetha Rama, and Radha Krishna. The Samudra Manthan scene is elegantly painted on the main shrine’s exterior walls. • It is approximately 5 km from Hyderabad Railway Station (Kacheguda) and 7 km from Begumpet Airport.
• It is easily accessible by road. The nearest public transportation stop is AG Office / Birla Mandir, which is only an 8-minute walk away. Closer to the temple are the secretariat, telephone bhavan, and assembly point stops.

Travel Tips

• The temple is open daily from 7 am to 12 pm and from 3 pm to 9 pm, with no entry fee.
• A parking lot is available at the temple’s base for your vehicles.
• A free locker outside the temple allows you to store your belongings. Shoes, phones, cameras, and other items are prohibited within the temple.
• Please wear modest attire when visiting the temple.
• The temple is accessible via approximately 50 steps, but a lift is available to the top for senior residents or those with disabilities.
• A Birla planetarium is located about 400 meters from the temple, and an auto service is provided for free transportation between the planetarium and the temple. While walking away from the planetarium, an auto driver informed us about it and drove us to the temple. He informed us that the temple priests pay them an amount every month for this service.
• Lumbini Park is only around 1.5 km from the temple, and numerous autos would gladly carry you there for 10 rupees per person. Most auto drivers may also offer to take you to a pearl shop, but you are under no obligation to make a purchase. Also, they will inform you of this beforehand.
