Jaipur Trip Itinerary

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, captures us with its gorgeous architecture, busy bazaars, and royal palaces, making it a must-see destination for travelers seeking an immersive experience in India’s vibrant culture. It offers a seamless blend of rich history and modernity for those seeking an authentic experience.

Jaipur boasts a plethora of attractions concentrated around its vibrant city center. Further, the three major forts are conveniently located approximately 10 kilometers from the city center, with each fort spaced about 5 kilometers apart. Based on our experience, we recommend a three- to four-day itinerary for visiting the delights of Jaipur, as well as a shortened two-day plan for people with tighter schedules.

  • Start your day with a visit to the Hawa Mahal. If you’re aiming to capture a full shot of the Hawa Mahal and indulge in some photography, consider grabbing breakfast, or snacks at the Wind View Cafe or The Tattoo Cafe and Lounge located opposite it before heading to the Hawa Mahal. By the time your order arrives, you should be ready to snap some photos. While the restaurant’s prices may seem excessive, the food is delicious, and photography is permitted.
  • Next, make your way to Govind Ji Temple, situated behind the Hawa Mahal. If you’re interested in purchasing local goods at MRP without the hassle of haggling, head to Maharani Bazaar located near Govind Ji Temple. Additionally, you can enjoy a meal at Govind Restaurant within the same complex enjoying live folk music. Although the prices may be slightly higher compared to typical restaurants, the wide range of items available here and the absence of other good pure vegetarian restaurants nearby make it a worthwhile stop.
  • Next, proceed to the City Palace. For the palace tour, you will have the option to purchase either museum tickets or royal tour tickets. Depending on your preferences, you will require approximately 2 to 3 hours to explore the City Palace. We found the prices for the royal tour tickets to be on the higher side and opted to skip them.
  • Further, continue your exploration by visiting Jantar Mantar and Isaralat in that order.
  • As the evening approaches, take some time to browse for souvenirs in the bustling markets of Bapu Bazaar and Johari Bazaar while sampling local delicacies. And before calling it a day, don’t forget to catch a glimpse of the Hawa Mahal and the vibrant Pink City area brightly illuminated on your way back.

All the mentioned locations are within walking distance and can be easily explored on foot, especially if the weather is pleasant. Alternatively, you can rent tuk-tuk or regular autos for the entire day or hop on and off as you visit these sights.

  • Begin your day by heading to Amer Fort. Before continuing to Amber/Amer Palace, stop by the Jagat Shiromani temple and Panna Meena Kund. To get to the palace, you have the option to climb the nearly 350-step staircase to the fort, which offers a moderate trek. Alternatively, until 2 pm, you can opt for an elephant ride to the top. Additionally, if you want a guided tour, a jeep service is available at the Amer Fort gate for roughly 200 rupees per round trip, which includes the guide. You can also drive up to the top entrance of the fort in your vehicle. Plan for about 2 hours to fully tour both the palace and fort.
  • Next, make your way to Jaigarh Fort, either by vehicle or on foot via a short hike from Amer Fort. It’s less than 1.5 kilometers by foot and approximately 4.5 kilometers by vehicle. Allocate at least two and a half hours to explore the fort due to its expansive size. If you choose to hire a guide, make sure it includes a guided tour of all of Jaigarh Fort. A few people might approach you acting as a guide, and then try to trick you out of cash while chit-chatting about irrelevant fort specifics. Should you encounter such situations, it’s advisable to move away swiftly.
  • On the grounds of Jaigarh Fort, you’ll find a vegetarian restaurant where you can enjoy lunch amidst the historical ambiance.

  • You can easily proceed to Nahargarh Fort from Jaigarh Fort. If you have a hired or private vehicle, simply use the same exit you used for entry to reach Nahargarh Fort. Alternatively, if you walk to Jaigarh Fort, you can either return to Amer Fort and hire a jeep or car to Nahargarh Fort, or catch one at the Jaigarh Fort exit. While they may charge a little extra, you can always negotiate with them and arrange a drop-off location at Jal Mahal or any city center before agreeing on a rate.
  • A tour of Nahargarh Fort typically lasts between one and two hours.
  • Afterward, you can visit Jal Mahal, although you might only catch a distant glimpse of it from the banks of Man Sagar Lake.
  • Finally, after a fulfilling day of exploring these three majestic forts on foot, take some time to unwind.
  • Follow the suggested plan above if you wish to catch the sunset at Nahargarh Fort. Alternatively, reverse the order if you’re interested in experiencing the Amer Fort Sound and Light Show.
  • Begin your day by visiting Patrika Gate if you enjoy photography, followed by a stroll through Jawahar Garden, the city’s largest garden.
  • Afterward, make your way to the Birla and Moti Dungri Ganesh temples, conveniently located across the street from each other.
  • From there, you can venture to the Albert Hall Museum, the oldest museum in Rajasthan which will take around 2 hours to explore.
  • If you have extra spare days, consider departing Jaipur on 3rd day. On days 4 & 5, you can explore nearby tourist destinations such as Agra, Ajmer, or Pushkar and enrich your journey with diverse experiences.

  • You can visit the well-known Katu Shyam Ji Temple by hiring a taxi or taking the bus for the day. The journey to the temple typically takes around 2 hours one way, consuming more than half of your day.

This itinerary is ideal for those seeking to purchase composite tickets or for travelers with limited time. The composite ticket offers convenient access to several key attractions including Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Isaralat, Albert Hall Museum, Amer Palace, Nahargarh Fort, Sisodia Garden, and Vidhyadhar Garden, all within two days. With this ticket, you can seamlessly navigate without worrying about individual entry fees at each location.

  • Kickstart your day 1 by visiting the Hawa Mahal and securing your composite entry ticket. Subsequently, proceed to explore Govind Ji Temple, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and Isaralat in sequential order. If you choose to explore these areas on foot, consider taking an auto or tuk-tuk to the Albert Hall Museum. Following this, hop into an auto once more to reach Birla and Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple.
  • If you’re quick, you can cover all these attractions by 7 pm, allowing you to conclude your day with a delightful Rajasthani Thali at Choki Dhani Village Resort in a traditional ambiance. However, if a visit to Choki Dhani is on your agenda, plan or arrange for a vehicle for the day as transportation options become limited at night from the resort back to the city area. Alternatively, you may opt to conclude your day with some street shopping in Bapu or Johari market. While heading back, don’t forget to admire the beautifully illuminated Albert Hall Museum.
  • On Day 2, explore Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, and Jal Mahal. Please note that Jaigarh Fort requires a separate entry ticket not included in the composite ticket.
  • En route back, seize the opportunity to witness the captivating illumination of Hawa Mahal, Isarlat, and the Pink City, presenting a truly stunning sight.
